Amarya West is a vibrant 15 year old with dreams of becoming a pediatrician or a model (knowing Amarya's drive and ambition she just might be a modeling pediatrician :)). She takes her academics very serious and maintains a 4.0 GPA. In the 7th grade, she was one of very few children chosen to take the SATs and she scored as high as seniors! Amarya is active in a number of extra curricular activities, some if which include: Urban 4H Birding, Arts Alive, Girls Scouts, SOAR (Students on Academic Rise).
Amarya's life was forever changed the morning of July 1, 2014. Her father was driving her and her little brother (Almond, age 8) and crashed their van into a construction hole. Their father fled the scene. The children's mother, Della West, could hear their screams from blocks away. Both children were transported to the hospital. Almond broke his femur and had to have several surgeries to repair an artery in his leg. Amarya is paralyzed and is unable to feel anything below her neck.
As of July 15, 2014, Almond has been released from the hospital, but Amarya remains in the ICU.
