Don't wish for it, work for it!

I'm from Wotton-Under-Edge and started ballet when I was 3 years old at Ruth Osborne School of Dancing purely for something to do. Who was to know that my good toes naughty toes would lead to where I am now? It wasn’t until a few years later I started learning tap and modern too. A young me started doing my grades and exams, finding myself wanting to progress more and more so I would do 3 or 4 sessions a week to allow practice in all genres.

Street dance became another contender for me during secondary school with Di King and Edge Street Dance. When paired with Georgie Arkell we won competitions as a duo for 4 years running.

I completed my GCSE’s in 2011 and I knew they had to go well to get a place to study a level 3 diploma in Dance at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College. During my time at SGS I even had experience with the Royal Ballet and at Heart radio carnivals through cheerleading. How did I have time for all of this and still do so well? I finished the course with a triple distinction.

Judith Hockaday College of Dance and Drama came next for me in 2013. Studying here allowed me time to continue climbing up the grades. Whilst at Judith Hockadays, National Dance was added to my ever developing portfolio. This school allowed me to learn a variety of cultural genres too. I feel like Judith Hockaday was the right stepping stone needed to get more experience before looking at further training in performing arts. It was to help me progress and become stronger. To date I have got my Diploma in dance instruction and teach others who are where I used to be, trying to get to where I am. Not only am I battling to realise my dreams, I am helping others to do the same at Kathryn Hurley Dance Academy.

A degree in performing arts is the final door before I can enter the professional Musical Theatre world. How can I work to make my wishes come true? Offers from SLP (College of performing arts in Leeds), Bodywork (Performing arts in Cambridge) and Performers College (Essex) have already come through but to be able to accept these places I will require financial support and there is no government funding available for performers like me.

As cliche as it sounds every little helps. If you enjoy being able to go and see a Musical Theatre production performers like me need help to make it as a professional. Can you help me fulfill my potential? You can find out more by looking around my website or going to www.gofundme.com/dontwishforit.
