Documenting HONK! Oz
For four years, I've been documenting the HONK! phenomenon in North America: Somerville, Providence, Brooklyn & Manhattan, Seattle, and Austin: field recordings, photos, video clips, interviews and narratives.
Now, the HONK! phenomenon is going global, with the first non-US HONK! being held in Wollongong, Australia (about an hour from Sydney) and I need your help to get there!
As an anthropologist closely studying and immersing myself in the culture of HONK!, I will be fully documenting the spread of the phenomenon, and representing both HONK!TX and taking pictures on behalf of The Book of HONK! But this will only happen if I can raise enough money for my airline ticket and supplies.

My goal of $3,374 includes:
> ~$2,500 for the airline ticket
> ~$200 for online documentation (storage, design, domain, content management)
>~ $200 for quality audio field recorder
> ~$175 for physical storage (SD cards, hard drive)
> ~$300 for miscellanous supplies

about me:
My roles in HONK! festivals have included: co-founder, band liaison, volunteer coordinator, housing coordinator, social media lead, media contact, tour manager, consultant and ambassador.
I've played with several HONK! bands and been welcomed as a member into several of them. I'm currently a member of Chaotic Noise Marching Corps.
I've also taken an academic interest in this aspect of community music and written a 60-page thesis paper.
