After three years in detention, my son, Elder Gomez Lopez, was just granted a $10,000 bond, as a result of hard work and support from the entire community.  I launched a hunger strike in front of the Phoenix ICE office that inspired people across the country to hunger strike in front of the White House to stop deportations.  I led a 60-mile walk to the notorious Eloy Detention Center, to send messages of hope and love to my son and all the other people unjustly detained there. I travelled to Washington D.C to bring my demand for my son's release to the President's front door and pressured Congresspeople to come through on their promise to support immigrant families like ours.
 
Elder has suffered serious medical emergencies while in detention, due to the inadequate care he has received while inside for a severe chronic condition. He has been hospitalized over a dozen times in the last 3 years, often given incorrect medication, or denied necessary medical care.
