The Monte Cristo Collective Bookshop is an exciting new kind of bookshop for New London. It is a nonprofit, volunteer run bookshop run for the community by the community.
The purpose of the shop is to provide a great source for new and used books in downtown New London, while also bringing great authors, speakers, and regular events to the space.
The old owners were generous enough to donate all of the inventory and fixtures of the old shop, but that leaves us needing a few more things. First, we need to stock the latest titles as well as fill in some of our shelves, especially scifi/fantasy and children's books.
We're not asking you to give something for nothing. You have two options for your giving. You can buy a voting membership in the collective at $60 for one year, $200 for 5 years, and $350 for life. Alternately, you can just buy a gift certificate usable for any purchase in the shop. In fact, you are even welcome to specify in the comments what you want us to use your money for, and your wish will be our command, as much as is possible.
We also need a few specific things:
Many of the overhead bulbs blew in the last couple months, and we want to replace them with high efficiency LEDs, which are $15 each.
The windows allow the blazing sun to cook the front of the shop, and we need window coverings. We'll most likely use some kind of artistic tapestries, which we would welcome donations of or would cost about $30-$50 each for the 10 or so we'll need.
We need to outfit the space with proper Internet which will cost $200 to set up.
Then there are all the various and sundry supplies a shop needs like a trash barrel, storage bins, etc.
