URI Dressage Team

This year, the Intercolligiate Dressage Association has recognized over 25 schools to compete. Last year, the University of Rhode Island was one of those teams. Although the URI Dressage Team was only established in the Fall of 2012, we have proven to be a competitive team in the IDA Region 1 area. We competed against other schools such as Johnson and Wales, University of New Hampshire, University of Maine Orono, Bridgewater, and Dartmouth College. Like any team, riders are required to take at least one lesson a week in order to be eligible to ride in the collegiate shows. Carpools are set up to bring team members who do not have access to a car from campus to the barn (Faith Hill Farm in East Greenwich,RI) and back. Although not everyone rides at every show, we encourage everyone to come watch and cheer on their teammates. For those of you who don't know what dressage is, check it out on YouTube. It's kind of like a carefully scripted dance on horseback. This year, URI Dressage may not get to compete. What little funding we had has been taken from us. Our team is kept alive only by intense fund raising efforts. Most of this money goes into the care of our team horses. Please help us! We have just as much of a right to compete as all of the bigger teams! At this point the situation is critical!
