On August 22, 2014 my Dad and Grandma were in a serious car accident in California.
My Grandma passed away from the accident and my Dad broke his ribs on both sides, broke his sternum, and bruised his lungs when he hit the steering column so hard it wrenched it out of the dash. He is still in SICU (Surgery ICU) because he is on an epidural for pain and they are worried about pneumonia risk.
Our family has had hard financial times across the board for quite a few years now. Our family has gone the least monetarily pricy route to lay my Grandma to rest and it still exceeded the amount of insurance we had to cover the cost. We're reaching out to anyone who is willing and able to help our family pay for the bit of the funeral that insurance can't cover.
My dad receives medical care through VA (Veterans Affairs). However, when he goes to a regular hospital he runs the risk of VA denying payment because he didn't go to one of their facilities. He's still paying off the medical bills from the last time he went to the hospital for something. At any rate, in the likely event the VA decides they will not pay his probably massive medical bills, I am asking if there are any funds leftover after paying for Grandma's funeral costs that the funds be used for Dad's medical bills.
