I found this pup on Monday morning, 10/6, when she ran out in front of my car on Plymouth Rd. I pulled over, called her, and she came right over to me. I noticed she was favoring her right hind leg, so I scooped her up in hopes of finding her owner. I've posted on Craigslist, Nextdoor, Lost Dogs of Texas, hung flyers where I found her, and contacted the city of Dallas' lost and found contact to see if she's a match to any lost dogs. I've had no luck so far finding the owner. The same day I found her, I brought her to Metro Paws, so they could check out her leg. Dr. Lavender said that she either had a torn CCL, or a fractured growth plate, but wanted me to return at the end of the week for x-rays, and gave me an NSAID to give her in the meantime. I returned on Thursday for the x-rays, and she does, in fact, have a fractured growth plate. Her two treatment options are surgery or amputation. Since my dog, Kona, had to have 21 teeth extracted in May, I'm still paying for that surgery (and will be well into the next year or two), and cannot afford to take on another surgery bill. Left untreated, not only will her right hind leg be shorter than the left, her bones will also rub together, causing callusing. I'm still trying to find the owner, however the vet said she needs to come have a procedure within a couple of weeks, and she'll be in some pain until that happens. Luckily, she gave me some tramadol to give her in addition to the NSAID, to help keep it under control. The surgery will be between $1831.41 and $1974.25, and the amputation will be between $1536.83 and $1579.67. Both prices include a spay, and all of the follow up visits. While the surgery requires her to be very restricted for a month afterward (confined to a crate, no running, no playing, and she'll need to be brought out on a leash), I'm willing to do this, and hoping to raise enough money for the surgery, in order for this pup to keep her leg. The goal amount includes the 7.9% fee that gofundme takes, and is for the higher estimate for the surgery. I've already spent about $300 on the initial visit, meds, x-rays, and mild sedative for the x-rays, so I can certainly use any help I can get. Thank you so much for the support! I really appreciate it, and I know Dharma will too!
