We are mental health professionals in the West Georgia Area. Our agency, with whom we contract or work directly for, has closed its doors, leaving us unpaid for 6 weeks or longer. We deliver in-home therapeutic services to at-risk and impoverished children in the community. This bankruptcy was not due to market conditions or funding issues, but to the alleged embezzlement and reckless actions of the company’s founder and CEO, who used company funds to finance his own lavish lifestyle at the expense of those who earned this money for him.
The company has since tried to file for bankruptcy protection, and was denied on based on this information. However, the company’s employees are still awaiting payment for services rendered, despite the company in question being paid by federal and state funding for the services we, the contractors, billed. Some of the outstanding debts of this company approached and exceed $20,000 per contractor/employee. Some of these contractors are in desperate need of this money in order to pay rent, house payments, even utilities and food. Two contractors have been evicted from their homes, and many more are facing eviction. Many of them have young children of their own.
We believe it is not fair for the CEO of this company to escape responsibility for his reckless actions while we pay the price for them, as well as the families we serve. We are, together, rallying a fund for a potential lawsuit against the CEO. But lawsuits, and lawyers, especially, are pricey. In order to receive appropriate representation, we require funding.
We entered this field in order help our community and alleviate the suffering of children and their families. If you can find it in your hearts, or your conscience, or your sense of justice, please donate whatever you can.
