Emergency Car Accident Family Fund

This is a really difficult campaign for me to write about. The past few days, I've had to be silent about this, when inside my heart was breaking for my family.  Six days ago, on March 20th, my brother's wife, my sister-in-law Teri, was in a horrible and very serious car accident that has left her in the ICU ward at Mass General.

Teri was out on the highway on her way to the craft store when she was cut off on the icy highway and her car spun out of control. She was then struck by a Land Rover directly on the driver's side and had to be extracted from the car by the jaw's of life.  She broke her jaw, her ribs, her pelvis, and several ligaments in her neck.  She is scheduled to undergo several surgeries and her recovery is expected to be very long and quite difficult.  She is in a great deal of pain right now, awaiting several scheduled surgeries.  My brother is juggling taking care of the kids and the house with being by his wife's side.

Teri and Derek have two small children, Joshua and Audrey - both of whom are in day care.  Unfortunately, Teri works part-time and will (clearly) be unable to return to work for some time and has no benefits.  This leaves the brunt of the financial burden on my brother, in addition to caring for both Teri and the children.

My brother is is very stoic person and will of course rise to the challenge as he loves his family very much, but we know he will need help.  He cannot do it all, and we also know he won't ask for help.  So there are those of us who will ask for him, because we know in a situation like this, people *want* to help.  Friends and family want to be there to help those in need.

My brother is the type of person who would do anything for anyone at the drop of the hat.  He's helped me more times than I can even count.  Teri was out just running an errand, and in an instant - her whole entire life changed.  Right now, they can use your help.  The medical bills alone will be substantial, but beyond that, the day to day bills of day care, food, utlities, gas and getting back and forth to the hospital - they will eventually take a toll on my brother, and I'd like to try and help.

Last week, I started my first-ever fundraiser for a student of mine,  and I asked for your help.  I had no idea that within a week I would have to ask again. Sometimes, life throws you a curveball.  But I know my networks of friends and loved ones.  If you have it in your hearts and little extra in your wallets, I sure would love it if you could find it within you to help out just once more for two people that I love very much.

I'm in California feeling very helpless not being able to physically be there to help them there in Massachusetts. Raising some money to help alleviate a little of their financial stress is something that I *can* do.   Thank you   from the bottom of my heart....
