Drunk driver kills mother of 9

Family mourns the loss of a mother of 9, killed by a drunk driver.
Today my heart is heavy! Yesterday August 21st 2014, Elizabeth Garcia (a mother of 9) life was tragically ended when her husband and her where hit by a drunk driver who was going over 70 miles per hour. Not only was Elizabeth’s life robbed from her, but it was also robbed from her husband and the 9 children left behind to mourn her loss. Her children’s ages range from 2 years old to 24 years in age. This family has been left with an immeasurable void that requires community action. We cannot take away this families pain nor can we bring their mother back, but what we do have the power to do, is stand alongside them and support them in this tragedy.
In the next week this family will have to face the burden of planning a funeral and covering all of the funeral expensive, 9 children will have to say goodbye to their beloved mother, and this family will have to somehow find the financial means to pay for the funeral expenses in addition, to sustaining the family’s basic needs without their mothers income.
I currently teach at the elementary school where four of the children affected by this tragedy attend. Today I witnessed their hopeless and broken spirits grieving for their mother taken far too soon. I ask that as a community we all take a moment, dig deep into our hearts and pockets, and give what little we can to help allieviate some of the burdens this family is unfairly forced to face.
