Help Tim Keep Going

I stopped working on June 30 to transition to disability. I have supplemental short-term disability insurance and was expecting the first benefits payment in early August. Unfortunately, the insurer recently denied my claim based on a pre-existing condition. I am pursuing legal recourse because the pre-existing condition language on the website was more forgiving than the language in the actual plan.

In the meantime, I am in dire financial straits. My bank account is overdrawn. I am bankrupt and have no credit cards. I have a mortgage payment past due, as well as past-due child support - and my ex-wife is not being understanding or compassionate, so I'm in danger of a contempt of court charge. I have daycare to pay, and two young sons to care for part time.



I have not received any pay in over a month and even if I could return to work I would still not receive a full paycheck for at least 3 weeks.

As far as my disability is concerned, I have a vertebral fracture in my lower back, a rare genetic condition that causes coronary artery spasm (triggered by work stress), an undiagnosed knee condition, PTSD from military service in the Marine Corps, and severe clinical depression (gee, I wonder why). Basically, if I was a horse, they would have shot me a decade ago.

The money will be used to get my bank account out of the red, and to pay for medical care, child support, daycare, auto loan, auto insurance, mortgage, essential services, food for myself and my sons, and an apartment deposit so I can downsize.

The goal is set at what my net income would have been for 2 months.
