After years of waiting, Daniel Bowden, age 43, received a liver transplant Sunday July13th. Daniel’s liver was failing due to Ulcerative Colitis. The U.C. caused inflammation in the ducts to the liver, blocking off passage for the liver to filter out toxins. Today, Daniel is recovering at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, where he will be for the next month or so.
Daniel is the father of two daughters and grandfather to a little three-year-old boy who is the center of “Pawpaw’s” world. He was employed at CSI Services before his deteriorating health left him home bound.
During his time of recuperation from the liver transplant, Daniel will need to focus on taking care of himself and following doctor’s orders. His mother will stay the entire time with him in Jacksonville, as his caregiver. His family is seeking donations to help with the cost of room and board for Daniel and his mom in Jacksonville and to cover medical and prescription bills.
Once Daniel is completely recovered from the transplant surgery and the medical team is confident his body is tolerating the new liver well, Daniel will undergo another surgery to keep the Ulcerative Colitis from damaging the new liver.
He has a huge journey ahead of him, but he also has a huge journey behind him. The support of family, friends, and community has been overwhelming during Daniel’s journey to this point. Now that he is experiencing a second chance at life, he needs that support more than ever.
