My Volunteer Trip/Dancing For Peace

Hello world,
My name is Hector S. Bautista Aniceto, I'm 22 years-old, a dancer, actor and community-building facilitator. I was born and raised in Vercaruz, Mexico, but thanks to my studies I've had the opportunity to live in Canada (Pearson College UWC) and recently in the USA. I am the first one in my family to go to college, and proudly, I will be graduating from Macalester College in St Paul, MN, USA, with a BA in Theatre and Dance in 2 days!
I am interested in the use of dance to help children and youth develop as healthy individuals by learning and implementing the lessons that dance teaches: take care of the body and the mind to move forward in the stage of life. Studies have shown that dance can help in the healing of trauma, in the treatment of stress, and in the development of a sense of empathy. The latter is very important nowadays in a world that makes people feel more and more distant from each other and from their own bodies.

I want to be a role model for young people and remind them that it is possible to build a better world if one only works hard and joyfully on building a better self. Moreover, I want them to know that no matter what people say, dreams can be reached, if one only sticks to the path that leads to them with faith and commitment. For this reason, I am embarking an a new journey to become a dance teacher.I have been accepted into and will be joining the Arnhold Graduate Dance Education Program at Hunter College in NYC this Fall.
