My name is Eric Wilkes (I even have a name tag to prove it)
About Me:
I have been a music minister for over 10 years now. I have played for numerous churches and events and have been a part of a number of bands. It has brought me to meet some really great people and led me to some amazing places. I feel that it is my calling to continue to share the hope and joy that I've received from my faith and from music with others.
About the Mission:
I recently had the pleasure of making friends with someone named Christina Saccharine Mamaril while playing at the Theology of the Body Institute held in Louisiana. Christina lives and works in the Philippines. As we got to talking, she began telling me about the amazing service opportunities that are in her country. She has graciously invited me to come help to serve the people of the Philippines with my time and talents. The only barrier (other than the Pacific Ocean) is the cost that it will take to make all of this a reality.
Time Frame:
The hope is to arrive in the Philippines at the beginning of February 2015 and spend a month of service there. While we haven't set a firm goal date for the fundraising, the sooner we raise the funds the better. Should we fall short of the goal arrival date, the funds will either be donated to charity or reserved for a similar mission at a later date.
Should you help us to make this goal of ours Into a reality by supporting us financially, this is what your donation will go toward:
1. A large portion will go to simply covering the travel costs.
2. Once the travel is taken care of, your donation will go to assisting with the following ministries in their community and under the Philippine Church:
No One in Need Movement (specifically the Child and Youth Development)
No One in Need Movement is a ministry that works towards poverty alleviation in the country without discounting the importance of integrating Christian values in the process. In the past year, they decided to add focus in Child and Youth development in the sites that have already been restored. The activities lined up for me here, are to provide music clinics for the youth of the restoration sites so that they may be able to channel their energies to something productive and towards praising the Lord with these efforts as well. The sites are not necessarily located in Manila, so I may be travelling to nearby provinces as well, wherever there may be a need or schedule.
Prison Ministry
The Prison Ministry has been providing sessions and bible studies for inmates of one of the most dangerous prisons of the city of Manila. I would love to be exposed to new ways of evangelization and bringing hope to people who desire to turn their lives back to Christ, not just through music but also by being open to establishing personal relationships with those who need someone to talk to and be reminded of the value hope in such a dire situation.
Live Pure Movement
Live Pure Movement has been around for a while now, bringing the good news of chastity and love to the youth of the country. They have been in demand for a while now considering Philippine’s growing concern to defend life and the family. They have talked to thousands of youth in various cities and islands in the country. Their dynamics usually involve a musician serenading the crowd, and I would love to help them in that aspect, but more than that it would also be awesome to share my personal convictions about chastity and love, and to give talks on vocation, as well as share my knowledge on Theology of the body.
Also, in the love month of February, Live Pure will be having one of its acoustic nights called “LIVE PURE TAMBAYAN”, which is a chill night of music open to young professionals. After several sets of music that fit the theme, they have a talk about the original design of love. This is a form of new evangelization that I am excited to participate in.
Also there are singles and youth ministries under Christina’s community and I would love to share my experience in music ministry with them through worship, worship leading, and song writing workshops.
World Singles Conference
I will also be in the Philippines in time for the World Singles Conference where I will participate with 1000 other single men and women in worship, and listen to talks regarding the a relationship with Christ, the faith, and how to bring this awesome faith to many more who need to hear about it.
3. Food and lodging that may not be covered by donation (nothing fancy, just for survival purposes).
