Hi everyone,

You may not be familiar with this place, but please take a minute to read about our need below.

Delicious on Lydig is a neighborhood cafe and point of connection for many residents in the Jewish community of Pelham Parkway. People rely on it for a variety of reasons. Some cannot cook their own meals all of the time, and some simply want a quick bite at a local kosher place. This is the only place where an elderly man can come in for a bowl of soup with some Jewish company, or where a home-bound person can send their home attendant to pick up a kosher meal. Though it has changed over the years, it has long been an important institution for the community.

But now that institution is in danger. The shop has fallen behind on its rent for some time now, despite the owner's best efforts. If a substantial portion of the rent is not paid soon, the landlord will take the owner to court, and the shop will be forced to close. That would be a tremendous loss for our community, so, as a member of that community, I am asking for your help.

FAQ

1. What can I do to help?

A) Buy from the shop! Check out their website here: http://www.deliciousonlydig.com

B) Donate here. $5, $10, $20, $100, $1,000 or more... Everything helps.

2. What will my money go towards, specifically?
The money will go towards the immediate need of rent owed, and also towards sustainable business planning. The goal is not only to get out of the current hole, but to improve the business planning to prevent the need for fundraising like this in the future. With your support, we can help this local business continue and not just survive, but thrive.

3. Wait, hold up there, this is a business, not a charity. Why should I part with my hard-earned cash?

That's a fair point. This is a business, but it is also a vital community resource. If it closes, that will hurt members of the Jewish community here. We're trying to prevent that from happening, so we're asking for help. It is important to note that I am asking for money to be donated not just for the immediate rent need; I am also working with the owner to ensure that whatever circumstances came together to create this debt, they will not be repeated. From whatever money is raised, I intend that 85% should go for the immediate rent need, and 15% to get someone on board to help with long-term business planning.

4. Who will be handling this money?

The Jewish Community Council of Pelham Parkway will be handling the funds. The JCC of Pelham Parkway is a well-established organization which has served the community for many years. I (Elissa) will be maintaining this page and communicating with people there.

5. I don't like the idea of simply donating, but I could be persuaded to invest some money. Is that possible?
