Guillain-Barré Syndrome

I was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome in late May. (See link below for more info on this illness.) A rare and incurable autoimmune condition in which the immune system chronically attacks the nerves. The onset of my illness began April 26, 2014. After weeks of doctor appointments and three ER visits, I recieved electromyography testing and a spinal tap in order to diagnose my illness. In late May I was hospitalized for one week recieving treatment via an immunoglobulin transfusion. Presently, I am in recovery. This is an extremely slow process that could take months to years to gain my strength back. I'm hopeful there will not be permanent nerve damage but it is impossible to know at this point.
I have been unable to work since the end of April, as a result my partner and I are struggling financially. She is not only working multiple jobs to keep up, but also taking care of me full-time. As you can imagine, this is very exhausting and income is an increasing point of stress and anxiety for the two of us.
According to my neurologist, I am completely disabled. He has treated dozens of patients with GBS and has strong reason to believe I will possibly be unable to work for a year or longer. This of course is variable on how fast I recover, but as of now it is a daunting thought for us. I am a tattooist and having severe peripheral neuropathy of my hands and feet. I can barely hold a pen or pencil at this point. We remain hopeful none the less that my condition will improve over time. In the meantime we're integrating holistic approaches as much as possible; that too comes at a cost that we can't always afford sadly.
Ultimately friends, we're asking for any financial contribution you may be able to donate to us as we continue to struggle while I'm recovering. The smallest amount helps, I promise you! We certainly understand this is simply not an option for many folks and we thank you for your kind thoughts etc. Nothing is expected, please do what is only within your means. Several people have already volunteered their help in many generous ways; We appreciate your compassion SO MUCH! Do not feel obligated to donate again!
