COLOURS FOR CANCER

LBPSB Community Coming Together to Fight Breast Cancer

Members of our Lester B Pearson Community wish to take an active role in the fight against breast cancer by raising awareness and participating in school/centre-based fundraising efforts. We unfortunately witness too many arising cases amongst our own students, parents and employees. Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among Canadian women (excluding non-melanoma skin cancers). It is the 2nd leading cause of death from cancer in Canadian women. Breast cancer can also occur in men, but it is less common.
The Canadian Cancer Society estimated that in 2014:
• 24,400 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. This represents 26% of all new cancer cases in women in 2014.
• 5,000 women will die from breast cancer. This represents 14% of all cancer deaths in women in 2014.
• On average, 67 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer every day.
• On average, 14 Canadian women will die from breast cancer every day.
• 210 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 60 will die from it.
Therefore, we are very happy that the Lester B Pearson Community will unite its effort to raise funds towards research in finding the cure to this disease. The Lester B Pearson Community has set a target to raise $50,000 by October 28th. If the goal is met, a number of volunteers made up of board administrators, school administrators, teachers, support staff and even high school students will Shave and Save by October 30th, 2014.
We would like to thank you all for your consideration in helping us attain our goal!

Mount Pleasant Contribution Toward our Common Cause
At the school level, we would like to contribute and raise awareness through a “Colors for Cancer” campaign. Stephanie  Hérault, our Principal, Krystyna Koelblen, our Music Teacher and Johanne Lacelle-Lavallee are challenging you, the Mount Pleasant Community to donate a collective amount of 1000$.

Mrs. Koelblen and Ms. Lacelle-Lavallee have already chosen their colors. Mme Herault is going out on a limb: If less than 1000$ is raised, she will choose her own colour, however, if 1000$ or more is raised, you, the Mount Pleasant Community, will choose the colour for her.

Cancer affects all of us in one way or another, so let’s rally together and fight this with a united front!

New development:
one of our kindergarten parents, Holly Yates (Faye's mom) will be joining use in our efforts by also dying her hair and collecting at various business...thank you so much for your encouragement!
