Plane Ticket for Colescott 2 NYC

Donation protected
My son Colescott Rubin is eighteen years old and is an amazing musician. Colescott plays upright bass, euphonium, trombone and bass trombone.
-
With various groups and combos, he has won or placed in several local, state and national competitions - playing both upright bass and bass trombone.
-
He has played on stage at Lincoln Center (as part of the Essentially Ellington Competition in 2013 - which he will be going to again this coming May) and at the Next Generation Monterey Jazz fest (with AMP in 2013, 2014 and later this month he will be there again.)
-
The community band that he is part of (Thara Memory's American Music Program (AMP) with the Pacific Crest Jazz Orchestra) just won the top honor at the Mingus festival in NYC at the Manhattan School of Music last month as well as a top honor at the PDX Jazz fest.
-
Colescott's hard work and dedication to his craft has also won the support of the most amazing teachers and mentors.
-
For music lessons he has painted teachers houses, managed, organized their music libraries, scheduled their rehearsals and been their personal assistants in trade. As a result he has had the amazing good fortune to study with Glen Moore, Thara Memory, Chuck Israels, George Colligan and many other jazz greats who call Portland home.
-
Right now we have several financial challenges.
-
His little brothers have brain injuries and other issues from being lead poisoned as babies and this has taken up most of our finances - leaving very little to help Colescott with his pursuit of a college education.
-
Colescott has been selected to audition for the New School for Jazz and for the Manhattan School of Music.  Each of these schools is considering him for a merit based full tuition scholarship.  In recent weeks he also auditioned for the Berklee School of Music and the New England Conservatory of Music.  Some of the schools also have a "Presidential Scholarship" where room and board are also covered.
-
In order to be best evaluated - especially since he needs a full tuition scholarship to attend college - he needs to audition in person.
-
Two weeks ago we went to Boston and New York and this past week to Seattle and so he has already done some of the auditions in person - but this cost our family more than $750 already and he has one more trip to New York to do his final two auditions.   We need to raise about $560 to cover that plane ticket.  He also will have ground transportation needs and need meals covered while he is NY for this two day trip (he has a free place to stay.)
-
Colescott has several other costs he needs to cover in conjunction with the College Application process too - so if we raise more than this goal, any additional funds will help him get current with his PSU tuition (about $4,000) so they will release his official transcripts (he attended there instead of high school and has been getting straight A's) and - in order to complete his college applications - he needs to complete the GED (which costs about $150.)

He's an amazing young man, dedicated to music and we would truly appreciate your help.  Thank you. Please come hear him play with the AMP combo at Jimmy Mak's on Monday, March 16th!
