Racing for RSD/CRPS

Hi, I'm Natasha and I live with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, also known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. RSD is a chronic neurological syndrome characterized by severe burning pain, which can run either or both "hot" and "cold", pathological changes in bone and skin, and extreme sensitivity to touch. My RSD was triggered from an injury in a car accident over four years ago, and since then I have been unresponsive to most treatments. I now use a wheelchair, since I am unable to walk or stand for more than a few seconds at a time due to the severe pain in both of my legs. 

However, I love being active. And I've discovered that racing with my chair brings me a lot of joy and an amazing feeling of speed and freedom. While I'm racing, I'm able to ignore the pain. I also hope to use racing as a means of advocacy and awareness for RSD/CRPS since there is so little known about this disorder. While using a wheelchair has opened up a lot of possibilities for me, wheelchairs are not always perfect, and the world has yet to become truly accessible. This is why I am asking for the money to help acquire a freewheel for my chair. https://www.gofreewheel.com/ The freewheel essentially lifts the caster wheels (the small wheels in front) off of the ground, and turns the wheelchair into a three wheeled chair that can go over and through pot holes, curbs, sand, grass, and even snow. 

With the freewheel, not only would I be able to enter more races which would allow me to spread more awareness about RSD and hopefully help others with this disorder, I would be able to go to work in the snow without getting stuck and fearing frost bite, I would be able to go to beaches and on trails with friends and family while being able to keep my independence. 

If anyone would be willing to help me out, I would truly appreciate it. I try to live the best I can with the disability I have and I believe a freewheel would help me in multiple areas of my life and eventually other people's lives as well.
