We hate having to ask but eventually we had to realize that our daughter is in need of something that we just cannot financially support alone.
Thank goodness for military insurance and the peace of mind that her medical treatment itself is covered.
For us the hardship comes at the cost of living in the middle of nowhere and having to travel for healthcare specialists.
We discovered at our 20w ultrasound that Penny would be born with bilateral clubfeet and need treatment right away. She will have a series of plaster casts put on both legs for probably 5-7 weeks (getting a new cast weekly) then have boot and bar braces for another few months worn 23/7, until eventually wearing the braces only when she sleeps until the age of five.
The weekly trips to UCLA medical center are what we need help funding. The drive is about 3 hrs, not counting traffic. The money will be used for gas and food primarily. As we are not yet sure how she will react to the procedure, hotel is also factored in to not have her back in the car all evening immediately following.
Furthermore, it has been brought to our attention that her car seat will likely need replaced as it is a bit narrow for accommodating her casts/braces.
