Our Destination Imagination team just won 1st place at the California state competition on Saturday, March 28! We got the highest score out of 65 teams in the Fine Arts instant challenge, and we also won first place in our main challenge. Our team, The Seven Deadly Grimms, is made up of six students from Clark Intermediate School in Clovis and one student from University High.
As State Champions we have been invited to compete at the Global Finals tournament in Knoxville, Tennessee, during the week of May 18th. Destination Imagination (DI) is a creative problem solving competition for students in elementary school through college.
We are excited about this opportunity to compete in Tennessee, and we are working hard to raise funds to help cover travel expenses. It will cost approximately $1,800 per student to make the trip to Knoxville.
The team has been meeting every Saturday since November. We put many long hours of work into solving our challenge and creating a "Feary Tale" skit. We made props and costumes, including an intricate backdrop that resembles a story book, a dragon mask that creates the illusion of smoke and firebreathing, expandable dragon wings, and a magic mirror to transport our narrator into the fairy tale. Our entertaining skit is about a narrator who fears imperfection. He falls into a fractured fairy tale where he meets a princess, a witch, a dragon, a prince, a fairy godmother, and a dancing bush. He learns that "imperfection is beautiful", and the characters live imperfectly ever after.
