Nigel's surgery

Donation protected
Nigel is an incredibly sweet, loving and comical pug. He is 5 years old and really is my baby boy. Nigel has had a rough week and just had surgery. Friday evening we noticed that Nigels breathing was labored. I called my family vet and they said to bring him in. Once we got to the office they preformed an x ray and told us to go immediately to the ER vet. While at the ER vet Nigel was on oxygen and had to have his chest tapped. They removed 1/2 a liter of fluid from his chest cavity. The doctors at the ER vet in Dayton advised me to transfer Nigel to a much larger and more advanced facility in Columbus. While in Columbus, Nigel had several x rays and an ultrasound and the doctors couldnt find a conclusive diagnosis. They suspected Lung Lobe Torsion (where one of lung lobes twists) but they couldnt be sure until they did a CT scan.Lung Lobe Torsion is a very rare condition, but it is most commonly found in pugs.  Two days had gone by and thousands of dollars had been spent and we still didnt have an answer. Today they did the CT scan and the suspicion of the Lung Lobe Torsion were confirmed. They rushed Nigel to surgery and I am happy to say that he is in recovery and doing well. Nigel should get to come home in two days where he will hopefully have a speedy recovery and a long, happy life with our family.
The past three days have been agonizing for my family. Not only were we devastated with Nigel's condition, we were also devastated with the financial cost of the tests and surgery. As of now we are at $7000.00. I worried that I was being iresponsible. I am a sales manager and my husband is in law enforcement,  so were definately not made of money :) but, Nigel is a member of our family and I knew that if I could help him and we could have a positive prognosos that I would do what I could.

I struggled with the decision to make this page. So many people have financial burdens and they don't ask for help. I was encouraged by several members of an awesome pug group on facebook. This group of Pug Chat members really helped me through this and I thank all of them for their support.

Nigel brings so much happiness to our life on a daily basis. Everyone who comes in contact with him falls in love. I cant wait until he is back home. Until then, I will miss his snorting, passing gas and always being at my feet.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my furry baby and his struggle.
