Prepare Norwalk Teens for College

This past summer, I hosted the first annual College Edge Program (CEP) in Norwalk, CT with the support of the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).  Students in the program took severals steps towards preparing for the college application process. They developed potential college lists, extracurricular resumes, brag sheets, personal statements, and put themselves in the shoes of college admission officers.  By the end of the program, they felt confident in their knowledge of college admissions.  Here's what they had to say about the program: 


I want to bring the College Edge Program to Norwalk High School.  In an effort to spread early college awareness to students, I plan to enroll twelve 1st generation college-bound freshmen in our program. These are the students who are least likely to enter and graduate from 4-year institutions.  They need guidance in choosing the right academic course load, extracurricular activities, summer programming, and in seeing themselves as college-bound students.  There are REAL structural and financial barriers to college.  This program increases college access by equipping students with the knowledge and skills to navigate around, over, or through those barriers.

I NEED YOUR HELP in sponsoring this FREE college prep program.  If students wait until junior year to start thinking about college, it's too late. There's not much that they can actually do to change what appears on their college application.  Please support this program that puts students on the path to college.  For many of these students, college seems impossible but...
