CEDAR GROVE WAVES
is going into its 2nd year. The annual art installation is featured on the front lawn of Cedar Grove High School in Cedar Grove, New Jersey, in September as a way to remember, educate and honor the 2,977 people who perished on September 11, 2001. The installation features flags representing the home countries of all of the victims. This year we will add markers with the victims' names on them in front of their countries flags. Additionally we will be producing an index and grid to locate individual victim's names. We are also adding the names of the victims of the 1993 bombing. The installation will be installed from September 6th to the 10th and remain on the lawn from September 11th until September 23. Local Boy Scouts will be assisting us with it an earning a community service badge for their participation. The Cedar Grove Board of Education is not directly involved in the solicitation of donations, but will help facilitate the installation.
CEDAR GROVE WAVES was itself inspired by a similar display at Pepperdine University in California. Cedar Grove High School students will be involved in the installation, maintenance and eventual removal of the project, in this annual event. Monies raised will be used to buy broken flags from last year, garden markers, several banners and supplies. Cedar Grove resident David Schoner is coordinating the art installation. (Full disclosure: David Schoner is now a trustee on the Cedar Grove Board of Education. ) Jarmel Kizel Architects and Engineers, Inc. of Livingston, NJ have donated the design services required for the layout of the flag installation.
A donation of any size is appreciated. Donors names will be listed in the Cedar Grove Waves official program.
