Imad Alasmar, 57 year old cab driver was shot to death on August 26th 2015. He was the father of 10 children and worked day and night to provide for his family. He loved his job as a taxi driver because it allowed him meet new people everyday.
His family always worried about him going to work and prayed for him daily. "We always prayed he'd go to work and come back safe," said Ibtesam Alasmar about her husband of 25 years and the father of their 10 children, ages 8 to 22. Tuesday night Imad was shot and killed in his taxi cab on the 1400 block of Bedford Street in Rahway, according to acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park.
Alasmar, 57, of Edison was found around 11 p.m. in his cab by Rahway police.
Immediately following the shooting, Alasmar’s vehicle collided with a parked car, resulting in minor injuries to a man and serious, but non-life threatening injuries to a woman, who was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Imad was an amazing man and father figure to his children. He strived to support his family and try to find a better life for himself. He was born in Jordan and came to the U.S. in 1990. He had worked for Station Cab Inc. in Rahway for 3 1/2 years. He had previously worked at 7-Eleven and QuickChek convenience stores when he first came to the U.S. but originally was an english teacher in Jordan.
My name is Nermein Salam, and I am from Philadelphia, Pa. I have contact with the family currently and working with them in order to provide as much help as possible. I met them through a family friend. The funds will be used for the family's needs. Specifically for the children and the house expenses. I intend to get the funds to the family as soon as we reach our goal. I will be delivering the money personally.
