Catholics for Family Peace 501(c)(3)

Donation protected
The Catholics for Family Peace mission is to serve as an alliance of Catholic dioceses, archdioceses, organizations, affiliates and individuals committed to sharing the Church’s teachings on family peace and the prevention of family abuse through education, research, practice and policy.

As an all-volunteer start-up organization, we humbly ask for your help funding our office space, liability insurance and other startup costs. Your contributions will give our organization the initial boost we need to further our mission. Catholics for Family Peace is incorporated as a 501(c)(3), tax exempt organization.

We hope and pray that all Catholic homes will be places of peace. We understand, however, that domestic violence is a serious, often hidden and widespread problem. It takes on many forms: physical, sexual, financial, emotional, etc. Domestic violence is present to a significant degree in every demographic group within our society. Women are the victims far more often than men. Women are the victims in approximately 75 percent of homicides committed by an intimate partner and are the victims in 85 percent of non-lethal, physical domestic violence cases. Instances of domestic violence occur among members of all faith communities, including Catholics. It touches the families of our parishioners. It affects the students and employees in our parishes, schools agencies and other Catholic organizations. It is addressed by the Church’s social service activities.

Catholics for Family Peace will increase awareness within our community about domestic violence.  The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops addressed the issue strongly in their 1992 statement “When I Call for Help: a Pastoral Response to Domestic Violence against Women.” Ten years later, in the introduction to the anniversary edition of the statement, the bishops said “…we state as clearly and strongly as we can that violence against women, inside or outside the home, is never justified.” They issued a call “for a moral revolution to replace the culture of violence.” Catholics for Family Peace will work to answer that call first in our Church and then in our broader American community.
