Camp Kulin for Yarloop & Waroona

Recently Yarloop and Waroona were affected by one of the worst bushfires in WA's history. The bushfire killed two men and flattened the town of Yarloop, destroyed 180 buildings and other infrastructure and burned through 71,000 hectares of land after lightning sparked it. Many houses were destroyed, and 18 other buildings, including commercial and community buildings, caravans and sheds were burnt in Yarloop, Waroona and Wagerup.

For Camp Kulin's April camp, we have decided to make one of the sessions available for children aged 8-12 who have been affected by the fires. Camp Kulin is a nationally recognised program based in the Wheatbelt which teaches leadership, trust, confidence, self esteem, communication skills, perseverance and other life skills in a way which is fun and memorable for the campers. The Camp Kulin program also has a major focus area on helping children who have been affected by various forms of trauma.

Campers take part in a number of activities including My Kitchen Rules, Human Hungry Hippos, Gaga Dodgeball, Frisbee Golf, Giant Human Foosball, Sensory Walk, Low Ropes Elements, Excursion, Circus Skills, Talent Show and more.

This campaign will allow us to bring 34 children aged 8-12 living in either Yarloop, Waroona and other affected towns along to Camp Kulin during the April school holidays. The cost per child is $350, which will cover transport to and from the affected areas to Kulin, all food, accommodation, activities, facilitation and a camper tshirt. Campers will be able to have time away from all that has happened, and have a week to remember in a supportive, caring environment.
