Help Me Do Horn Carving

For many years now off and on I have carved cow horns for use as drinking and blowing horns. It is a unique art that not many partake in, and I do it as one of my activites in the Society for Creative Anachronism, a medieval re-creation organization. I have recently started carving horns again after not having done so in a few years. I really want to get back into the activity full scale and I need your help.

What I do is carve the horn using minature carving tools, although I have increasingly relied on rotary tools. Then I paint the carved portions of the horn. It is very similar to scrimshaw only the lines are wider and deeper, and a variety of colors are used to paint the carved portions. It is an ancient art. Vikings carved their drinking horns and painted the designs to make them more beautiful. Carved drinking horns are mentioned in the "Elder Edda," an Old Norse text from the tenth century:

"On the horn’s face were there all the kin of letters cut aright and reddened, how should I rede them rightly? The ling-fish long of the land of Hadding, wheat-ears unshorn, and wild things inwards."

Carving horns is not without costs however. I have all the equipment to carve horns, but the large horns I like to use are rather expensive. Every donation will go towards purchasing horns to carve, and maybe a few supplies such as paints, sandpaper for polishing, and dust masks so I do not breathe horn dust into my lungs. I do not sell my horns. I make no money of them. I give them away to people to use. Some of my carved horns I donate to not-for-profits to auction off. So I will be paying forwad any donation you make. What horns I keep for myself I enter in SCA Arts and Sciences competitions or use for display in lessons on how to carve horns.
