Job seekers with disabilities...

Tax deductible
We need your help! Have you or someone you know been affected by a disability? Read on to learn more about our plight...

Just imagine for one moment that you are different. You can't do what others can do, or you look different than those aroundy you, or you feel different and can't seem to function like others without a daily struggle...

The truth is, we are all different and unique in our own ways. We all face challenges every day. Challenges to achieve our goals, challenges to overcome obstacles, challenges to be accepted and loved, and challenges to succeed.

For some, the goal can be to win the game or complete a major project. For others, it can be just getting out of bed and fighting that agonizing feeling of despair that comes with depression. It can be struggling to get dressed or having ‘to be dressed or fed’ when living with a physical disability. For others it’s fighting disorders like Autism, ADHD, mental illness or developmental conditions that control every aspect of your life.  Living with a disability adds many layers of challenges above and beyond what a person without disabilities experiences.

Bridges to Employment, a division of the non profit organization, Alternatives, Inc. helps these people and others find and maintain employment. Bridges has helped thousands of job seekers over the years and continues to do so every day.

What brings meaning to our lives is being productive, being able to accomplish goals, to feel appreciated, and to be useful. To accomplish this, and to have our basic wants and needs met, we need to work. Finding and maintaining employment is not easy for anyone, but for those with disabilities, it can seem insurmountable. With Supported Employment services, programs like Bridges to Employment give people with disabilities the help they need to face their challenges, find work that is meaningful and productive and gain confidence to be self-sufficient, contributing members of society. Unfortunately, programs like ours don’t survive on state and federal funding alone. Without contributions we would cease to exist.

Thank you for spreading the word and sharing our mission! Read on to learn about Mark and Chris, who are two of the many people who have benefited from Bridges to Employment training programs….

Meet Mark….Mark was enjoying a long and successful career as a salesman for a national chemical company when he suffered a stroke while driving. The results of this life changing moment left Mark with not only cognitive damage, but also weakness in his right arm and leg. In addition, Mark tires easily, adding to the challenge of finding gainful employment. During the time spent training at “It’s All Good”, it quickly became clear that a retail job in the traditional sense would not be a good fit. We had to “think out of the box.” In working with Mark, it was observed that he had talent as a writer and a passion for golf. The result?  He created his own golf blog! He was taught how to create his own site with daily entries and to upload images and photos as well.

“…It’s All Good and it’s retail university program was suggested as a source of training with employment as my goal.  During the weeks I participated, Diane was great explaining how the store was run and the various aspects of the retail industry. Having been away from the computer for a while, Diane was instrumental in reintroducing me to the computer and even taught me how to “blog”.  I even began my own blog on golf. Each session at It’s All Good instilled in me more confidence and a sense of worth. This is a wonderful program and has given me optimism that I will once again be employed. Diane was very encouraging and gave me the confidence I needed to enter the workforce once again.”      Mark

Meet Chris….Chris has Cerebral Palsy due to complications at birth.  Her challenges include learning disabilities and the need to use a walker. Chris has “been in the system” for many years trying to prove she is ready for employment. It wasn’t until she started her program at “It’s All Good”, that things really took off for her. Her drive and outgoing personality coupled with  her passion for creating computer graphics led to a remarkable journey at It’s All Good, that has culminated in her now having started 3 websites, a more professional looking face book page, improved skills for her flyers, and made her own business cards!

“Thank you so much for doing what you did when it comes to me hopefully getting a job, it means a lot to have someone believe in me that much with all the struggles I've been through in life and especially employment. I said this countless times and I've meant every one of them, "You were seriously the best thing that has ever happen to me!!!" Now you see why when I did emails to [referring agency] they had like a million exclamation points.”
