A few years ago I had to go the Emergency Room because I was having severe abdominal pain. They did a CT scan and the ER doc said there was nothing wrong and it was probably just gas. Well, after having my scan re-read by my GP's radiologist, it was in fact a quite large ovarian cyst. Thankfully it was treatable and went away on it's own without surgery. The cysts still come and go and sometimes they're unbearable but I've learned to manage the pain.
The ER visit was partially covered by insurance, the remaining balance of over $2000 was supposed to be my responsibility. I have argued back and forth with the hospital for the past two years as to why I shouldn't have to pay since 1. They've already been reimbursed for 70% of their billing and 2. I was misdiagnosed. They don't agree and won't budge. I did pay them $120 a month for several months before I was out of work for 3 months. Now that I have been back working for over a year, they have decided they are going to pursue wage garnishment. This means they could take up to 25% of my wages. I cannot live if they do that. I will not be able to pay my rent or car or food or really anything if they do that. I have an 8 yr old daughter that I also support. I do not live beyond my means. Everything I make is accounted for. I do not have credit cards, I don't have any extravagent expenses at all. I just cannot afford to pay them what they want and now they're suing me. My credit has been ruined because of this and do not qualify for a loan. With court costs and interestm, the amount owed is almost $3000.
I don't know what else to do. I am at a complete loss.
