Advance at College (Phila Comm. College)

Last year I was accepted into the Community College of Philadelphia's "Advance" dual program for high school students as a sophomore—one year earlier than most students.
Due to financial obstacles, I was unable to take advantage of this opportunity. Having done well in the placement exams, and worked to arrange transportation and an accomodating schedule that would not interfere with my high school obligations, I was very disappointed.
Fortunately, I have just been invited back into the program and offered a private grant of $500 to put toward tuition and related expenses such as books, transportation and a new backpack. I am truly hoping to make this enrollment happen as my goal is to become a journalist and an author.
I am currently working with a mentor at Mighty Writers in West Philadelphia where I live, and am also a member of Teen Scholars, which focuses on college prep and tours. Additionally, I am enrolled in an SAT prep course, trying to better my chances of succeeding both at CCP and in the college application process when I am a senior.
I also intend to enter college as a sophomore in hopes of saving my family money on tuition and also to jump into the workforce as soon as possible to start earning my own money and embarking on my life as an independent young adult. Your donation will help me build a better academic foundation and give me a head start on becoming a strong writer.
