Help Emkay Get Back On Her Feet

Last Friday, the thirteenth, Emkay went under the knife at the UC Davis Medical Center to remove a tumor on her leg. Because of the size of the tumor, the surgeon also had to remove muscle and surrounding tissue. Emkay is now recovering at home and awaiting a pathology report on whether or not the tumor was malignant. The good news is that Emkay's surgeon is one of the top Sarcoma Cancer Specialists in the country and we are all optimistic that she will soon return to good health. The bad news is that the road to recovery will be long, filled with months of physical therapy, and multiple trips to UC Davis for further treatment.

Now at home, Emkay is floored by what she suddenly can't do. She is a single mother of two boys. She has friends to assist her with errands and household chores, but cannot return to her job at Dunsmuir Hardware until she has fully recovered. She still doesn't know whether she'll be able to continue working on her feet. Meanwhile, she has no income while bills continue to accumulate.

Emkay is a hard worker. Many in the Mount Shasta area know her from working at Mountain Song Natural Foods, Golden Eagle Charter School and Dunsmuir Hardware. Others know her for felting or arts and crafts. She is proud and would not want to ask for a handout, so we have decided to pass the hat for her on her behalf.

Anything, absolutely anything would help. Until she has fully recovered and returned to her job, she will need funds for groceries, fuel for heat, her mortgage and keeping the power on. Anything that you feel you could afford to give will be greatly appreciated.
