Help Asia Monét stay at Loyola!

Donation protected
Hello, My name is Asia Monét, some of you may know of me because of Pinterest. Currently, I am a nineteen year old junior at Loyola University New Orleans and am on track to graduate in the Spring of 2016 with a B.A. In Sociology and a minor in African, African American studies. During my time at Loyola I have been a member of the dance team, Director of Programing for the Black Student Union, and a member of the QSSA executive board. Those of you who follow my Elderly Inspirations board know that I have a strong passion for history and social justice. My ultimate dream is to become a museum curator. I know that may sound weird to most, but in my eyes museums have become extremely underappreciated institutions. In my life, I have been blessed with opportunities to travel and study abroad. However, for many young people museums are where they get to experience the great wonders around us. As a museum curator, I hope to give people, especially children, an opportunity to step beyond the Eurocentrism of their textbooks and the media. Right now I am working with an amazing non-profit in my hometown of New Orleans that has dedicated itself to the rehabilitation of those exonerated after incarceration. I have finally gotten to the point where my passion for social justice and my Jesuit education at Loyola University is being put to good use. Unfortunately, my hopes and dreams are at risk of being put on hold. My financial aid for this coming year has changed significantly, leaving me with a $10,000 deficit for each semester. I’ve tried to remedy this situation by working three jobs this summer, but it just has not been enough. I’ve been forced to entertain the idea of taking a break or transferring (risking credit loss and a longer stay as an undergrad). My education is paramount to me and stretches far beyond the idea of personal gain. This fundraiser is my last hope. Any money raised here will allow me to pay for this upcoming semester and give me time to apply for more scholarships. I know in my heart that your investment in my education is the greatest gift I will ever receive. Thank you so much.
