Help Replace Stolen VW Van in Argentina

Donation protected
My brother had his van stolen in Buenos Aires. I want to help him get a new one :)

The story goes like this:

Pedro is my younger brother. He's a great guy that enjoys simple things in life. He plays the bass guitar in a small band, builds his own furniture, loves to go to concerts with friends (pretty much anywhere in and around Argentina) and works hard. He's genuine, sweet and generous. Since I can remember he wanted an old VW van so he could make a dream road trip from the most northern point in Argentina -La Quiaca- to the southernmost tip -Ushuaia-.

After months searching for one, he stumbled upon this red one around 3 months ago. It was old enough that he could afford it, but still in good enough shape that it wouldn’t leave him stranded on the side of the road. I remember the day he got it; he was so proud, and he told everybody about his new van and sent me tons of photos (we both share the same love for old VWs).

As you all might know, in July 2014, the Argentine soccer team made the World Cup final in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. He and 3 friends drove there from Buenos Aires - a 1700 mile (over 35 hrs nonstop) road trip. Because his van had no heating system and it's winter in the southern hemisphere, they decided to drive his friend's car. After 2 days they got to Rio to see a great game where Argentina lost to Germany 1-0 (they didn't have tickets so they watched it on the screens Brasil had installed in the beach). Defeated, they drove 2 more days back to Buenos Aires.

As soon as he returned, he realized his van was missing – somebody had stolen it from the street while he was away. I called him as soon as I heard the news, knowing what that van meant to him. He told me "More than pissed, I'm sad. It took me forever to save the money and find the van, and they took it just like that. I have no more savings to buy another one".

Needless to say, it broke my heart.

I'm trying to help him raise $2000 so he can buy another VW van. Anything you can contribute is awesome and greatly appreciated. Don't forget that the exchange rate for the Argentinean peso is 1-10 (US$1 = AR$ 10), so every dollar counts!! And make sure you contact him next time you visit Buenos Aires: he'd love to show you what being a real "porteño" means, get you a beer in the most local, coolest bars around (he knows ‘em well).

Argentina is not an easy country to work and save money in, and it took him years to save enough for that VW van. With your support, Pepi will finally make that dream road trip.
