WHO ARE WE?

Alex and Harry first became friends in 2011 through a mutual passion and a desire to pursue a career in Aviation. Since then we have worked together through our tertiary education with CQUniversity, both of which are due to graduate at the end of the year with a Bachelors degree in Aviation Technology.

Becoming an airline pilot is no small feat, which requires a lot of time and a lot of money. The path we chose was to obtain a bachelors degree and pursue the practical side of flight concurrently. Normally when studying full time our degree should only take three years to complete. But unfortunately due to our University course having little funding assistance we were forced to work to put ourselves through flight school.

We both suspended our studies throughout our time to seek full-time employment. While Harry went up north to a small mining town to operate dump trucks, Alex went out east in the deep blue ocean for weeks at a time with the hopes of exchanging prawns for flight hours.

With the money we individually earned over the years we put ourselves through flight training. As of a few months ago with around about 100 hours flight time we both received our Private Pilots License’s, costing both of us over $30,000.

WHY ARE WE RAISING MONEY

For a while now we’ve both had this idea of circumnavigating Australia, and we’re going to do it! They say the first step of any projects the hardest and we’d have to agree. Step 1; raise enough money to make our dream become a reality. Our departure date is set to June 2016, which we feel is a very realistic and opportune time.

We don’t only wish to fly around all of Australia however, with this project we hope to raise enough money to help fund an aircraft that at the completion of the trip will be donated to CQUniversities Aviation department. With the idea that future students will have a subsidized cost for when conducting their flight training.

We are trying to raise money through crowd funding as well as hopefully picking up a few sponsors. At the moment CQUniversity has been able to pledge some finances for us and we will be working with them throughout the duration of this project.

THE TRIP

Since we are only at the beginning stages of our project the specific details are yet to be established but we do have a few drafts. The navigation will pass through all 8 of Australians states and territories.

Some intended destinations include: Bundaberg (starting point), Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Coffs Harbor, Sydney, Hobart, Melbourne, Adelaide, Cooper Pedy, Uluru, Perth, Darwin, Gove, Weipa, Horn Island, Cairns Townsville, Rockhampton and finally back to Bundaberg.

Since we yet to establish the plane for our navigation we cannot say for certain our route or how long our individual flights will be but probably around 4-5 hours at a time. We plan to travel over 1500kms some days and we should be able to conduct the whole trip with no more than 80 hours flight time.
