Buddha's Mass Removal Surgery

It is with great sadness that I inform you of Buddha's passing. On Saturday, December 31, 2016, after having experienced breathing difficulties, x-rays determined that Buddha had tumors all over his lungs. Yesterday morning (Monday - 1/2/2017), Buddha was laid to rest at the vet's office. He went peacefully and without pain.

Our dog, Buddha, is a 7-year-old mixed breed dog (we believe he is a Golden Retriever mix). He has been with our family since he was 12 weeks old.


On the evening of June 17, 2016, I noticed a bloody mass on Buddha's rear, near the very top of his right hind leg. On the morning of June 18, 2016, I took him to the veterinarian's office to have him checked out.

His veterinarian was hoping it would just be a superficial surface bump, but as it turns out, it is very deep below the surface. Luckily, it is NOT attached to the underlying muscle, but his vet said that our only option right now is to have the mass removed.

According to the vet, the cost for surgical removal will be between $400 and $500, with an additional $150 charge for biopsy. This amount does not include any medications that Buddha might need post-op.


Buddha is not just our pet, he is a part of our family.
He has literally grown up with our 8-year-old son and our 3-year-old daughter loves him to death.

He is a very important part of our lives and we will exhaust our resources to make sure that he gets the help that he needs.
