Donation protected

In October 2016, Brett's medal winning performance at the 2016 WorldSkills Australia National Competition earned him a place on the Worldskills Australia Skills Squad team among Australia’s best young skilled apprentices and trainees.

Brett, along with 17 of Australia’s current National Champions from their particular trade or skill has now been succesfully selected to join the elite *2017 Skillaroos forming part of Team Australia that will go on to represent Australia at the world’s largest vocational skills competition – the WorldSkills International Competition, which will take place in Abu Dhabi in October 2017.

Brett is working tirelessly every day to reach his goal of winning the Gold Medal while representing his country in Abu Dhabi. Often referred to as the Olympic Games for Skills and Trades, the WorldSkills International Competition will see the world’s best trade young men and women, from 76 nations, compete in 50 different categories for the title of World Champion.

To ensure Brett has the best possible chance of winning a medal, he is now taking on an intensive training program and along with his mentors, category experts and a team of dedicated volunteers Brett will train and develop his skills, his decision making abilities and build the resilience needed to compete against the world’s best.

With your help we can provide Brett with the best possible opportunity to achieve his full potential, represent WorldSkills Australia at the International Competition in Abu Dhabi in October and come home with a medal.

ABOUT BRETT:
School most definitely isn’t the perfect fit for everyone, and Brett McPaul realised that in Year 10, when he decided to instead undertake an apprenticeship in metal fabrication (construction metal work), and boy is he glad that he made that choice. Going into a skilled trade such as Construction Metal Work, allows Brett to be constantly challenged, by different scenarios each day. As Brett gets more involved with WorldSkills Australia, he has learned to push himself out of his ‘shell’ and have an open mindset when meeting and interacting with new people, it has also helped him develop his technical knowledge within the trade.

Being chosen as a member of the SkillsSquad team, for the chance to compete internationally as a Skillaroo, brings an vast amount of training and expectations. If Brett is chosen to represent Australia, he believes the pressure, both emotionally and physically will be immense. He wants to ensure that he is able to bring his absolute best to the international stage, and showcase the calibre of training that is available within Australia, and the places it can take you if you take advantage of all the opportunities available to you. Therefore, to ensure that he can meet those goals and expectations, his training will be constant and he will be in continuous contact with his mentor and team leader.

*2017 Skillaroos are champions chosen to represent Australia on the world’s trade and skills stage, and help to secure the future of the skilled Australian workforce.

** Australia is currently ranked 12th in the world and in 2017 we aspire to break into the top 10.
