Hi everyone,
Our names are Charlie Pennington and Harry Deijnen, and we are 17 years old, currently studying our A Levels at Neston High School. We have been given an amazing opportunity to go and teach underpreviliged children in a township in Cape Town, South Africa through an organisation called the HQ Coaching Centre (see below).
Due to the large class sizes at these schools, the teachers often have to stick to strict regimes and unlike our schools here, there isn't much time for learning through fun and games. Therefore, when we go to these schools we put on classes that will hopefully be fun yet still educational. We will also be coaching the children in sports, some of which will be new to them.
This is a fantastic chance for us to give something back and help out disadvantaged children in a poorer area of the world. However, in order to do this we must raise the funds to go on this trip, which in total is £3000 for both of us to go. To raise this, we will be doing a range of events to raise money such as car washes, cake sales and fundraising draws and are also contemplating doing a physical challenge to raise yet more funds such as an event similar to Tough Mudder.
However, this will not be enough alone to raise this sort of money in the time we have to do so as we only have until April 2017. As a result, we are reaching out to you for any donations or contributions you can which will be grateful received.
We really would like to go on this trip as to us it seems like a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience a new culture and meet new people whom normally we would never have met. We believe it will also give us a greater understanding and appreciation for the work teachers do daily as well as providing us with the tools to help teach others about what we have learned. We strongly believe that this opportunity could also be very beneficial to the children we would be working with as we have had many opportunities through education that we'd like to pass on.
