A week ago today Ezio was on a breathing tube, iv fluids, constant pain meds; was unable to walk, stand or barely lift his own head. Could not breath or eat on his own and couldn't control his pottying. The vet (not DAH) suggested he be put down.
As you know Ezio had his procedures today. The veterinary surgeon was amazed at the progress of his healing in only one week considering the significant trauma and injuries he experienced.
Ezio is breathing on his own. His lungs and trachea have filled back up. The trach has healed completely internally and externally only lacks superficial skin closure. The food pipe is healing, hemorrhaging has ceased, swelling gone down. His neck fracture healing is progressing naturally with the confined and restricted movement regiment we have in place at home. There seems to be no disc damage at this time. He is able to walk with ataxia parethis on the left side.
He may need additional procedures and surgeries in the future. He is anemic and his liver values are high due to the extensive blood loss. If no improvement in one week he may need a blood transfusion. He needs physical therapy due to the neurological damage so that he can run and play again. He is suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and needs immediate treatment and stress resolution in order to prevent this behavior from becoming ingrained into his personality. So he can be his old self again.
These treatments and procedures are expensive and take time.
It is impossible to put a monetary value on human life. I thank God every day that Ezio was here to save Gavin. I also thank him for giving me the opportunity to reach out to literally thousands of people so that they-YOU can save Ezio. Without YOU and your generosity this amazing selfless creature wouldn't be here today.
Thank you all so much for the contributions, care and concern. I believe the prayers and positive energy that we are receiving are a significant part of the remarkable improvements Ezio has made.
He has a long way to go but with you on his team he has a fighting chance!
