Italy: Black currant against cancer

The Ribes Nigrum
The ribes nigrum, also known as the blackcurrant, is a plant with a rich history in healing and cookery.
Used in traditional European medicine blackcurrants have proven to be a boon to many people suffering from arthritis, cough, diarrhoea, and sore throat. Now modern science is holding down these claims. With its rich vitamin C content, vitamin E, and anti-inflammatory phytochemicals blackcurrants are an indispensible part of preventive medicine.
What They do
Blackcurrants are popular in culinary use. The plump berries make tasty jams and jellies. Their puree works well in yogurt, ice cream, cheesecake, sorbet, and other desserts. Their leaves produce a tart tea and the berries can lend a pleasant fruity note to beverages.
Boasting a tremendous load of vitamin C the berries can supply you with more than the daily minimum. They are low calorie and contain good portions of potassium, manganese, iron, and even calcium. Blackcurrant seed oil contains vitamin E, an essential nutrient for skin health, which beautifies the skin when put into cosmetics.
Best of all blackcurrants contain polyphenols! These phytochemicals have shown in the laboratory to help eliminate inflammation, a root cause of many degenerative diseases such as heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s, and neurological disorders.
What We do
My name is Fabrizio Lolli, my wife and I own a few hectares of land near Rome. We are experienced cultivators producing olives at the moment and we wish to expand. We need your help to bring the blackcurrant to Italy and to the world!
This project will assist us in planting 5000 blackcurrant plants that will be ready for their first harvest in as little as a year. By July 2015 Italy with have its own blackcurrant plantation and a local source of these piquant fruits.
Localizing produce may lower the cost by half and that means more access to the wonderful healing properties these plants can provide for Italians.
Each donation will receive a little gift to thank you for your contribution. We aim to produce the highest quality plants, using only natural and organic growing methods.
Let’s bring the blackcurrant to Italy and promote preventive, natural medicine for everybody!
