Student Journalists Travel to FL

My students need to attend the Journalism Education Association Fall Convention in Orlando, Florida .  We have some funds in our treasury, but a trip to a national convention will completely drain our reserve funds. Our two previous trips to national conventions were completely free for our students because of our fundraising efforts, and I'd like for this trip to be the same. If my students don't get the funding for this trip, most of them won't be able to attend because of their families' limited financial resources. I don't want any student to miss this opportunity because of lack of funding. 

Students that have accompanied me on our past national convention trips have been inspired to develop their craft as a result of the experience, and some are even pursuing careers in journalism after high school.

In all of my years of teaching, taking kids to these national conventions has been the most valuable thing I've done for them, and I hope that each member of my staff will get the opportunity to attend in November.

The best thing about being a teacher is getting to share in the joys of your students. I can't imagine the feeling they have when they hear their names called out in a room filled with thousands of student journalists from all over the country. I want to give more kids that experience.

Learning from the best in the business, meeting other student journalists, and competing on a national level are all once-in-a-lifetime events for kids from small town Arkansas. Thanks for helping to make it happen for them.
