HE IS CURRENTLY AT THE TOTOWA ANIMAL HOSPITAL IN TOTOWA,NJ UNDER GOING TREATMENT AND CARE.
Canine liver shunts are also called portosystemic shunts or portal caval shunts and are potentially deadly. In a normal puppy fetus, the mother's liver filters out the unborn puppy's body toxins. To help the mother's liver do this essential performance, veins connecting the intestines to the liver are closed but veins around the liver are open. The usual treatment for liver shunts in dogs is through surgery. According to Dr. Karen Tobias of the University of Tennessee, the survival rate for canine liver shunt surgery is 95 percent. If the dog is too ill for surgery, then adjustments in diet are done and antibiotics given until the dog is stronger. But all dogs with liver shunts will eventually need surgery or they will die.
Yoshi, the poor puppy also needs to undergo another surgery after his urethra was blocked by potential bladder stones and/or crystalized stones .This prevented him from urinating and caused him to be in serious pain, and thats when I realized he needed immediate attention. I rushed to my Vet in Clifton, NJ and after a few x-rays they informed me to take him to an emergency hospital. I rushed to the Animal Emergency Hospital of Fairfield where he undergoed emergency treatment to releive him of backed up urine. This is when we were notified he needs emergency surgery for stones in his urethra. The procedure was way to expensive and we were referred to a local animal hospital 5 miles away, Totowa Animal Hospital, with everything still attached to Yoshi we rushed over and within a hour the stones passed and due to enlarged prostate he was also neutered and given antibiotics. Now, 2 weeks later, for his follow up visit we noticed something strange and reoccuring, he coudn't urinate again, with no time to spare we went back to Totowa Animal Hospital and after having an ultra sound performed they determined more problems then they have imagined. With a liver shunt, a stone between his kidney and bladder, and particles in his bladder, my poor pup was not in the best shape, he is under going another surgery for removal of particles/ stones in his bladder and a follow up surgery for his liver . The surgery is more than $9,000+ but any amount of donation to help with hospital bills, bladder surgery, and upcoming liver shunt surgery. All donations in any small or large amount would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all...
