Stort version: I am going to Japan for 7 months (starting in late September) to teach English to school children, and I need start-up money as well as emergency-flight-home money in case (God forbid) something happens to my family, and I need to make an unexpected trip home.
Long version: I have had it in the back of my mind to travel to Japan ever since I was a little kid, but as I got older, I started to doubt myself, and I convinced myself that, maybe, it just isn't possible. I started to think that maybe I just wasn't smart enough, or special enough, or anything enough to get to go on such an amazing adventure like traveling overseas. It took a long time to undo all that negative thinking, and now I am finally getting the exciting opportunity to go to Japan.
This is my second applying for a position with Interac (a Japan based company that recruits English teachers from around the world to teach Engilsh in Japan); the first time, which was almost two years ago, I didn't even finish the application because I was too scared, and didn't think I'd get the job anyway. I told myself that I just wasn't ready, but another part of me knew that I just couldn't let this dream die, so I started saving up.
That was almost two years ago, since then I have amassed most of the suggested 500,000 yen (about 5,000 USD) in start up money on my own, but, due to number of reasons, I am just shy of my goal. I am currently working as an Americorps VISTA in the Far Northeast region of Denver, CO in education and community outreach; this position, aimed at combatting poverty in some of America's most high-need, underserved commities, keeps me at just above the poverty line, so I have not been able to save as much I had before I took this position. When I finish my VISTA term in August, I will have about one month's break before I leave for Japan, and that has lead me here.
I've been on this journey for a long time, and for a long time, I felt like I was at it all by myself, but now I know that I need help and I don't have to do it all alone. Please help me in the homestretch, and join me on this journey by supporting this dream.
