Beth's big jump for Mind

Donation protected
I shall be completing a skydive early next year in order to raise money for 'South east and central essex Mind'. For anyone who doesn't know, 'Mind' is a mental health charity which aims to support individuals facing mental health issues, the charity aims to share information and support about various mental health issues including; Addiction, Depression, Anxiety disorders, Eating disorders, Psychotic disorders, personality disorders, OCD and many other life altering mental illnesses. You can also look more at what Mind do on their website https://www.mind.org.uk

Mental health support and resources are underfunded and often undermined in the medical community, and mental health still has a major stigma surrounding it- leading some individuals to fear to seek any help or support at all. For anyone who knows me personally, they know that I myself have struggled with my own mental health issues, and whilst mental health support resolves around waiting lists of up to 12 months, charities such as Mind are always available for support and help.

One in four people across the world will be affected by a mental illness/disorder at some point in their life, it is likely that you know of family members and/or friends or perhaps even you yourself have faced a mental illness of some kind. That's one reason why raising money for mental illness is so important. Supporting individuals facing mental health issues can, not only improve lives massively, but also saves lives. Raising money for mental health charities such as Mind provides so much, including; money to be put forward for counseling, CBT therapies, support groups and for general aid in recovery and wellbeing.

As previously mentioned waiting lists for CBT/counselling and other therapies can be so long that it may take months or even years for individuals to recieve the essential help they need to improve their lives and mental health. Often with mental health, this amount of time allows for illnesses to develop and get worse, making recovery even more difficult. Donating money towards mental health charities such as mind means that more funding is available to spend on these therapies and support schemes, meaning that waiting lists can be shortened and individuals can recieve the help they need when they need it.

This is a cause incredibly close to my heart, having family and friends who have suffered through mental illnesess, who have been effected by suicide, and personally having been effected by mental illness, I know that 'Mind' is an incredibly important cause and I would appreciate any help I recieve in raising money towards my goal of £400.

I figured that a skydive is such a great way for me to raise money for a mental health charity, as I have a massive fear of heights and I know that it will be a difficult thing for me to do, however, mental health charities such as mind are all about helping individuals to overcome obstacles and to overcome their own self-doubts and beliefs, which is why I believe it is so apt for me to be doing something which i'm so afraid of for such a worthy cause.

Thankyou so much for all of your suport and donations - large or small, And wish me luck for the jump! x

You Can see below a video of what amazing things mind do as a charity and in particular, suffolk mind, my local mind charity which I shall be raising money for.
