Beths Adventure

Donation protected
Beth is 12. She was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta Type III - a severe brittle bone disorder. Since birth she has had over 35 broken bones, countless treatments and operations, months spent in hospital in traction or in full body casts and a whole world of pain. She has limited mobility and is wheelchair reliant.

Beth has many other physical conditions linked to her disorder that are likely to worsen in the future. Life expectancy in severe types of OI is shorter and timing depends on many different factors. Compared to this, the coming teenage years may seem insignificant but this time brings even further challenges. Whilst these challenges can't be erased, what we can do is help Beth further develop her own unique strengths so she can rise to meet them.

Beth inspires all who meet her, not only because of her courage and strength but because of the happiness she exudes. Rather than complaining about the countless activities she is unable to do, she chooses to find ways to use and develop her own strengths and abilities. She loves bottom shuffling through rock pools finding starfish, speed reading, contemporary floor dancing, busking & acting. Her joy is contagious. It is vital that this joy is kept alive.

The plan is to continue to give her an adventure of a lifetime, one in which she can try new things, continue to grow with worldly confidence and infect everyone she meets with pure joy. Beth has written a bucket list of 101 things she would like to do around the world. Many, like her, are a little quirky (wheel around Amsterdam for a day wearing clogs), beautiful (lie in a field of sunflowers) and joyful (eat 10 different flavors of gelato in Italy). She is writing a blog that you can follow about her adventures (bethsadventure.com) and every time one thing is ticked off the list, we 'pay it forward' and do a random act of kindness for someone else in need.

Thank-you with all our hearts in advance for your donations, love & support. Even without the added costs of health insurance & overseas medical expenses we couldn't do it without you. This trip is being shaped by the kindness of strangers and has become a magical experience filled with beautiful people. We wish you a lifetime of joy.

We want to dedicate our adventure to anyone who has a disability which makes the things they want to do in life harder and sometimes seem impossible. Stairs suck. So do the gaps in train platforms. One thing we have learnt is that it is never the disability that is the problem, it is just that the world is not set up for people with disabilities. Lets change that.

All our love
Katie & Beth xx
