Save Berry Pond & Lake George

Tax deductible

Help preserve the pristeen waters of Lake George by donating funds to the Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) to help us pay off the mortgage on the Berry Pond Tract. With your donation, Berry Pond Tract will be FOREVER WILD! Every little bit helps!

Why We Need Your Help

Our goal is to raise $15,000 through the gofundme.org website. In 2008 LGLC took on $2.654 million of debt to purchase the Berry Pond Tract and protect it from further development. Our overall funding goal is $150,000 (just 4.1% of the purchase price) to be raised through grants and other sources. Your gofundme.org donation will help us satisfy that debt. This purchase represents the LGLC's commitment to the West Brook Conservation Initiative, an agreement between three Lake George environmental agencies working together to protect the lake from polluted West Brook inflow in Lake George Village. The clock is ticking and final payments on our mortgage are due. We need your help to complete this purchase so that we may continue to preserve future tracts of land around Lake George.

The Berry Pond Tract is Important to Lake George
This 1,435-acre property includes high peaks overlooking Lake George and provides spectacular views of the Narrows and Rattlesnake Cobble. When you donate to this LGLC fund, you help preserve the Lake George watershed for future generations. This tract is home to the headwaters of West Brook. Three tributaries cross the Berry Pond Tract flowing into West Brook as it passes through Gaslight Village and into Lake George. Past attempts at development within the Berry Pond Tract resulted in a huge flow of sand and silt, delivered by West Brook, into Lake George. With added commercial and residential development, increased storm water run-off will carry pollutants and other unwelcomed materials into the lake. It was crucial to protect this piece of land from further development.

Recreational Opportunities Abound
Hikers, skiers, snowmobilers, mountain bikers, wildlife watchers and outdoor enthusiasts: The Berry Pond Tract is important to you and visitors who come to enjoy our Adirondack beauty. The site is home to blue herons and bald eagles, a rare acidic bog and wetlands, and other types of flora and fauna. Local officials are working with the LGLC to open new hiking and ski trails there. Also on this property, the South Warren County Snowmobile Club maintains the Berry Pond Loop, the critical link between Washington County and Adirondack snowmobile trails. The Warren County Safe & Quality Biking Organization has proposed an invigorating mountain bike trail through Berry Pond, too.

ATTENTION: South Warren Snowmobile Club Members!
Your club is partnering with LGLC to preserve the Berry Pond Loop running through the Berry Pond tract. As you know, this loop provides a vital snowmobile link between Washington and Warren Counties. Your donation will be shared 50/50 with SWCS. Please use the "Comments" box to tell us that you are a "SWCS member." LGLC is very pleased that your club is working with us to protect the land.

More About Lake George
Lake George, the Queen of American Lakes, is one of the most beautiful lakes in the U.S., if not the world. Located in the Adirondack Mountains, it stretches north and south 32 miles. The lake is 3 miles across at its widest point with depths of 200+ feet. Partially surrounded by undeveloped New York state-owned land, the lake offers fabulous boating, swimming and fishing in sparkling clean water. The LGLC works to keep it that way by conserving undeveloped land that can impact the future of the lake. As privately owned tracts of land overlooking and surrounding the lake are put up for sale, the lake is at risk for commercial and residential development that can wreak havoc on the quality of the water, recreational opportunities and beloved lake views that are currently open to all. You can help!
