Please help Beesly fight organ failure and leptospirosis.
My name is Beesly and I'm a 6 year old Yorkshire Terrier who lives with my family, Heather & Mikey, in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I love going to the park, for car rides, and bike rides. Belly rubs are my favorite.
I'm not sure what happened, but one day I was playing with my stuffed squirrel, and a few days later, I felt really tired and sad, so my mommy rushed me to the animal doctor and they said I was very sick. They told me my liver and kidneys were both failing and that I had to go to the hospital.
My owners rushed me to a 24-hour hospital who tried to give me antibiotics and lots of fluids to help me, but they said there was nothing more they could do. They said the only people who might be able to help me are doctors in Gainesville at the University of Florida Small Animal Hospital Emergency Center. My mommy & daddy picked me up at 5 AM and rushed me to Gainesville. I normally love car rides so much, but this one wasn't fun, it was very hard since I wasn't feeling very well, but I know they're trying to help me.
I am now in Gainesville, and I have gone through 2 long rounds of hemodialysis to help work for my kidneys and make me feel better. I am still very sick, but the doctors here are nice and say I'm doing a good job. They say I might need to stay here for 2 weeks. They think I have something called "leptosporosis," and I have to wait until the antibiotics have time to work. I'm having trouble keeping myself warm, so they keep me warm with hot blankies all the time. They're still waiting for my kidneys to get better, but they say I'm a really tough guy.
My dialysis treatment is going to cost about $20,000 and my mommy has already spent about $10,000 with all the doctors and tests trying to make me feel better. I just want to feel better so I can go to the park. Can you please help me? I know I am lucky to have a family that loves me so much, and great doctors helping me, but those doctors cost so much money. Please help me get better.
