Save the Beech Tree Concerts @ OWG
In 2003, I started a concert series at Old Westbury Gardens - one of Long Island's most beautiful places. Every summer, I am joined on five Sunday afternoons in July and August under a majestic beech tree by talented colleagues in presenting an eclectic series of classical, jazz, and folk music enjoyed by audiences of up to one hundred listeners. The series has developed a loyal following - people who will come to hear novel programs in an intimate relaxed setting, even when inclement weather prevents their enjoying the glorious grounds.
Recently, I was informed that Old Westbury Gardens can no longer afford to pay for this series after the 2015 season. Costs are modest - $2500 would pay for a full summer - and I'm hoping that people will step up to help save the series that brings such pleasure to so many and provides work to musicians.
My goal for now is to collect funds to cover 2 years. Otherwise, this summer may be our last under the beech tree.
