FOR ME

My name is Denitsa Dikova. I grew up in a small town and had no interest what so ever in dance. In 2002 things changed, when I decided to apply to the New Bulgarian University Dance BA Hons program, Sofia, Bulgaria. I completed my BA hons in 2008, and since then until this day I am a freelance artist in the world of performance and contemporary dance. I live and work primarily in Sofia, Bulgaria.

I have taken part in several international festivals, workshops, and seminars worldwide such as Transit Festival – Istanbul, Deltebre Dansa - Spain, ImPulsTanz – Vienna for which I received a scholarship to attend, Explore Dance Festival – Romania and others. I consider travelling as an opportunity and a possibility for communication, cultural exchange which creates a diverse environment for the mutation of art in new directions.

My interests at the moment regarding dance and movement are focused in the direction of exploration and experimental techniques. I focus my work on energy, emotions, awareness and improvisation. For me it is very interesting to explore the inner world of the body, and I am fascinated with studying yoga, tai-chi, authentic movement, body mind centering, ideokinesis, release technique, contact improvisation, instant composition and so on.

Improvisation as a form in the modern dance technique, carries with it the most meaningful expression to me as an artist. I see myself in the future as an author in this area of work. There is a lot of areas which I would like to explore and that is why I see my participation in this project a great chance for me as an artist.

FOR THE PROJECT

The project, whose implementation I need support for my work in residence with one of the most famous improvisers in the dance world. His name is Julyen Hamilton.

This year I applied to the program and was one of the few accepted. Julian himself choose amongst the dancers to ensure the highest level of training. I am happy that I was selected and I would not miss this chance for development.

About the workshop: Dance Technique with Julyen Hamilton

Julyen Hamilton's teaching investigates deeply the creative act and the technique needed to accompany and facilitate it. His vision of technique is one which observes how things are made, how they function and how knowledge, experience and intuition can be used to create the work we each need to make. It naturally enters the worlds of physiology, philosophy, culture, imagination and the future.

In recent years the compositional elements of major concern have been time, space, dramaturgy, music and voice; they stem from his experience as a dancer who creates and organizes material instantly before the public. The basic work is the handling of the body and the 'speaking' from it in space, motion and time. Its co-ordination and its relationship to the material it creates - and then to the sharing of it in a performance.

His ability to distill and convey essential principles allows dancers from a wide range of backgrounds to engage in his methodology.

Since 1981 the arlequi exists as a an organization for dance and theatre. It is located in the Mas Llapart, a large farmhouse built in the 17th century.

The place is a meeting point for artists from around the world who want intensive courses. It offers studio, sleeping rooms, bathrooms, kitchen, patio. All of the participants live together in the house, cook and share experiences and ideas in the hall and out in the beautiful nature around. Groups are not large, so it is an advantage to be approved.

Participating in this workshop is aiming for professional improvement and development, to enrich my knowledge within the field of free improvisation and composition. These are the directions which I need to and will continue to explore in future projects.

I would like to create contacts with artists from different art fields and from different cultures, to build professional relationships with them and work opportunities in future plan.

By participating in this workshop is to try a few things. Aiming professional improvement and development to enrich their knowledge in the field of free improvisation and composition. These are the directions you need and will continue to explore in future projects.

Thank you for your attention and support!
